  1. how long would it take for oceans to be thermally stratified from surface heating? (what depths of stratification is Lovelock talking about?) also, how long does it take for circulation to stop, or does it stop?

  2. I recall Lovelock writes that a 5 degree increase in surface temperatures will be sufficient to instantiate ocean desertification. Should we take this to mean ‘incapacitate the mixing zone’? I don’t know.
